The first step in making a great pastel drawing is taking a great reference photo. The better the photo, the better the drawing. Taking a good photo can be difficult with some animals, take your time and stay patient. Below are some helpful tips for you to capture the best photo of your pet.
Quality
The quality of the photo is key to making out both small and large details. If you can, use your best camera to capture the most high quality photo possible. Rapidly take as many pictures as you can, the more the better.
Angles
Always try to take a portrait style photo of your pet. Get on your pet’s level and focus the picture on their face. Don’t get so close that you cut out their ears or neck. Forward facing or side profile shots work great.
Lighting
Single source or natural sunlight is the best to capture the detail of your pet. Good lighting makes it possible to see details, such as the color of your pet’s eyes, their nostrils, and gives a more accurate look at the color of their coat.
